Abstract:

The closing ceremony of the Third Regional Conference on Higher Education (III CRES) finished with the reading of its final statement, which defines actions and recommendations for the next ten years on Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean 2018.

This document and the action plan, to be drawn up in the coming months, form the basis for the Latin American and Caribbean participation in the World Conference on Higher Education UNESCO to be held in 2019.

The Final Satement of the Third Regional Conference on Higher Education (CRES) argues that education is a social public good, and as such is a right that must be guaranteed by States. The document urges States to Latin America and the Caribbean to "establish rigorous control systems of higher education and other levels of education" to take action to ensure universal access to Higher Education, as well as the degree of permanence and students. It is also expressed in defense of university autonomy, and stresses the need to strengthen intercultural dialogue in this area, to emphasize South-South cooperation and regional levels.
