It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic death of Dr. Martha Farrell


With deep grief and sorrow we share that Dr. Martha Farrell, Director of the Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) perished last May 13 victim of  an armed attack in Kabul, Afghanistan. She was working in a training programme on Gender Issues with the aim to provide support to Afghan officials and NGO workers.

Dr. Martha Farrell (1959-2015), wife of Dr. Rajesh Tandon (PRIA President and co-Chair of the UNESCO Chair in Community-Based Research and Social Responsibility), worked specially in the fields of gender equality and women empowerment, and as partner in the UNESCO Chair Next Generation project. She played an important role in the struggle about gender discrimination, including the recent publication of a book among other projects.

Our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends during these difficult times.
