The director of the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNi), Josep M. Vilalta, participated today at the Higher Education Stakeholders’ Meeting of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) gathering representatives from partner higher education institutions and networks.
The meeting, held at the Casa Mediterráneo in Alicante (Spain), was aimed at presenting, analyzing, and discussing the results of the Public Consultation launched in view of the 1st UfM Ministerial Conference on Higher Education, which will take place in Fes (Morocco) on the 8th of November 2023. The results of the survey and the stakeholders’ debate should feed the Declaration to be adopted on the occasion of this UfM Ministerial Conference.
In the framework of the meeting, participants had the opportunity to reflect on the biggest achievements and challenges of the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in the field of Higher Education since the adoption of the Euro-Med Declaration of Cairo (2007), as well as to formulate suggestions on how to further boost the cooperation in the region by addressing the following areas: internationalization, governance, digital education, education for sustainable development, social inclusion & gender, and fundamental academic values.
In his intervention, Josep M. Vilalta recalled the importance of reinforcing the governance of the Euro-Mediterranean higher education institutions through training on leadership and change management.
