The 2.800 participants at the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development have adopted the Berlin Declaration on Education for Sustainable Development. UNESCO gathered 800 stakeholders from all regions of the world on 17-19th May 2021 in Berlin, Germany, to launch its new Framework “Education for Sustainable Development: Towards achieving the SDGs” (ESD for 2030).

Just adopted! The Berlin Declaration on Education for Sustainable Development has been adopted by the 2,800 participants at the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development in order to make ESD foundational at all levels. Through Education for Sustainable Development, UNESCO aims to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that are needed to contribute to sustainable development. The new framework ESD for 2030 (2020-2030) and its Roadmap for Implementation will focus on ESD as a key instrument for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
We invite all GUNi members and the Higher Education community to support the implementation of this declaration in cooperation with UNESCO, Member States, mobilizing its networks, including UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs, UNESCO Associated Schools and UNESCO designated sites, among others, and ensuring regular reviews of implementation progress.
Transformative learning for people and the planet is a necessity for our survival and that of future generations. The time to learn and act for our planet is now.
