Description:
The University of Guadalajara (UdeG) is the second oldest and largest public university in Mexico. Founded in 1791, it is an autonomous public institution structured as a network of 14 university centers, a virtual university and high schools, having establishments throughout the state of Jalisco.
UdeG has over 92,000 higher education students and 384 educational programs, specifically 215 undergraduate programs and 169 postgraduate programs in the following areas: economics & business administration; fine & performing arts, design & architecture; exact sciences & engineering; health sciences; biological & agricultural sciences and social sciences & humanities. 199 undergraduate programs and 77 postgraduate programs are recognized as programs of excellence by the most important accrediting and evaluating institutions and bodies in Mexico.
UdeG hosts 85% of all scientific research conducted in the state of Jalisco and is ranked 2ndplace nationwide in the number of Consolidated Academic Bodies (groups of researchers) and recognized by PROMEP (Teacher Improvement Program). Furthermore, UdeG holds 1stplace amongst all public state universities with 42.7% (654) of its researchers on the Mexican national registry (SNI).
UdeG has signed 533 international agreements and 340 national agreements and is a member of 72 associations and collaboration networks: 64 have an international scope and 8 are national.
In 2010, the University received 1,948 exchange students from 60 different countries, and sent 848 students to other institutions and universities in 34 different countries
Mission:
The University of Guadalajara is the autonomous and public University Network of the State of Jalisco, with an international vocation and a commitment to society, that meets the state's needs for middle and higher education, as well as scientific and technological research and extension, to make a significant contribution to a sustainable and inclusive development of its society, respecting its cultural diversity and honoring the principles of social justice, democratic coexistence, and prosperity for all.
Vision 2030:
The University of Guadalajara is an inclusive, flexible, and dynamic University Network, renowned in Mexico and abroad as a leader in the transformation of society through innovative means of social development and dissemination of knowledge.
Goals
- To work as a collaborative or subsidary network for the advancement of its core functions, promoting integration and interaction between middle and higher education.
- To encourage the balanced development of all the entities within the University Network in order to meet the educational needs of every region of the State of Jalisco in their various models.
- To foster a culture of innovation and quality in every task, promoting the internationalization of all the University activities.
- To promote a greater commitment to society and the environment, equality, sustainable development, and environmental awareness in the practice of every activity in the University.
- To strive for financial sustainability, optimizing the use of all resources in every entity of the Univeristy Network.
Main activities
Strategic Lines of Action
- Education and Teaching
It is a valuable mean for the university to achieve the goal of responding to the needs of society by improving its curricula. This endeavor includes activities focused on teaching, extension and liaison that provide valuable tools for creating strong bonds with society.
- Research
Defines the University as a generator and reproducer of knowledge through an innovative educational approach focused on the student and centered on learning, supported both by the best teaching techniques and most up-to-date information and communication technology, with high quality, mobility, and flexibility, and by collaborative and collegiate work.
- Extension and Linkage
Are valuable means for the University to respond to the needs of society and the market, to address and to solve the problems raised by the current environment by supporting the dissemination of science, culture, and sports programs and their potential for human and social development. Through its extension programs the University fulfills the goals, the tasks, and the demands it has committed itself to meet.
- Management and Governance
Management guarantees the sustainability of the University Network, the administration, handling, custody, and application of income, expenses and funds available, following the fiscal, statutory, and administrative guidelines applicable to support its programs. Institutional governance updates, applies and assures the compliance of rules, norms and legal regulations, by carrying out the University's tasks through democratic participation.
