The mission of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Nigeria is to provide high quality practical training to students to become professionally competent and confident persons capable of self-employment to develop environment-friendly and people-sensitive technologies and to enhance the well-being of the people through extension and other interventions. By so doing, the Nigerian people and the entire world are being served.

VISION STATEMENT

The Federal University of agriculture, Umudike sees itself as a vehicle for the attainment of the primary goals of the Niational Agricultural Policy of "self sufficiency in food and fibre" production. the University aims to provide knowledge throguh which food and security will be assured. Hence the Motto: "knowledge, Food and Security". The University therefore has the vission to serve Nigeria and humanity through processes that will lead to the allevuation of hunger.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike is dedicated to the training of its students to become professionally competent and confident graduates with exquisite dexterity. Cosequently, the curricular involve intensive teaching and extensive practical training in agriculture. The research objectives are also made to be relevant to the needs of famrers and local agriculture while the extension objectives are to ensure prompt delivery of well-tested and technically optimised protocols to sensitised and confident farmers; the traning of confident and competent educated farmers capable of working on their own instead of the current depence on government employment: the development of environment and people-being of the farmer consitute the focal pioints of the University.

to encourage the advancement of learning and to hold out to all persons without distinction of race creed sex or political conviction, the opportunity of acquiring a higher education in Agriculture;

to develop and offer academic and professional programmes leading to the award of diplomas, first degrees, postgraduate research and higher degrees which emphasize planning, adaptive, technical, maintenance, developmental and adaptive skills in agriculture, agricultural engineering and allied professional disciplines with the aim of producing socially mature persons with capacity to improve on those disciplines and develop new ones, but also to contribute to the scientific transformation of agriculture in Nigeria;

to identify the agricultural problems and needs of Nigeria and to find solutions to them within the context of overall national development;

to offer academic programme in relation to the training of manpower for agriculture in Nigeria;

to organize research relevant to training in agriculture with emphasis on small scale farming;
