Mission / Vision

IMU shall be an innovative global centre of excellence in learning and research, supporting a community of scholars and professionals committed to serving society, promoting the development of students to reach their true potential in becoming competent, ethical, caring and inquiring citizens and visionary leaders.

IMU is committed to academic freedom and the principles of equal opportunity in the pursuit and application of knowledge, the highest standards of intellectual, educational and research productivity; and the establishment of a learning organisation that respects the individual.

Goals

As an educational institution, our goals are:

  • To further strengthen the IMU as centre of excellence for undergraduate programmes in medicine, pharmacy and other health sciences programmes
  • To establish the IMU as a centre for higher education providing training through multidisciplinary programmes
  • To establish the IMU as a centre for postgraduate training and Continuing Professional Education
  • To train knowledgeable and skilful professionals with high ethical standards who will be dedicated to serve and improve the quality of life of the community
  • To train competent professionals with the use of innovative technologies of knowledge especially ICT in the teaching- learning process

Main activities

IMU is a university wholly specialising in medicine, health sciences and complementary medicine programmes which means that all resources are devoted to excellence in this area of education.

IMU is also pioneering the close integration of Research and Healthcare practice together with Education. Students get early exposure to research projects by interacting with the established IMU Institute for Research, Development & Innovation (IRDI) throughout their degree.

IMU’s Learning Philosophy is grounded on its core values, which fosters students’ development into knowledgeable, competent and caring healthcare professionals who are critical thinkers, reflective and yet proactive. The IMU Cares programme provides ample opportunities for IMU students and staff to engage and serve the community.

Access, equity and quality

IMU's Institute for Research, Development and Innovation (IRDI) was established in September 2012 to ensure sustainability in research and bring it to a higher level by realigning the University’s research direction. Five thrust areas were identified for research at IRDI: Environmental and population health, cancer and stem cell research, bioactive molecules and drug delivery, health profession education, and translational research.

Curricular innovation in higher education institutions (HEIs)

IMU, through the IMU Community Engagement office is also looking into circular solutions to reduce waste, in line  with UNSDG 12 for Responsible Consumption and Production. We had collaborations with a few hotels on linen upcycling projects with communities.

Opening up higher education to society

At IMU, we offer a number of scholarships and bursaries to help students in need across our Foundation In Science, Undergraduate and Postgraduate progammes.
