Mission / Vision

Since its inception, the Program has been guided by the observance of three fundamental commitments: academic and scientific excellence and rigor; addressing the challenges in the area; expanded understanding of education as a formal teaching system, especially public schools, and as training processes included in sociocultural movements throughout society. The mission is to seeking alternatives for the construction of a profile that responded to local, regional and national demands, and that expressed the plurality and theoretical advancement of the area. The organization of a flexible curriculum around different themes favors the presence of different theoretical approaches and teachers and students from different backgrounds, experiences and professional trajectories, which helps to consolidate a PPGEdu in tune with contemporary times and in permanent questioning about its institutional continuity. The key concepts for understanding the Pedagogical Proposal are translated into the ideas of multiplicity, diversity, transversality, complexity, respect for differences and ethical-political responsibility in the knowledge production process.

Goals

The main objective is to offer Master’s and Doctorate Courses in Education, with the aim of training qualified professionals to carry out teaching, research and development of knowledge production in the field of Education. More than that, the Program adds to the project of the current management of the University, which seeks a world-class university, fundamentally characterized by excellence, based on four central aspects and which were constituted as specific objectives: develop leadership capacity in research, by promoting the vitality and timeliness of the projects, groups and research centers of its teaching staff and students; disseminate the production of knowledge generated, so that it results in a global increase in qualified publications by teachers and students; exercise its capacity to transform knowledge, through academic-social insertion, notably the work of its teachers, students and graduates in education systems at all levels and in consolidated research groups, which increasingly assume a transnational aspect; raise resources to increase production and to ensure the Program’s internationalization actions.

Main activities

PPGEdu/UFRGS offers, every semester, a wide variety of disciplines that feature a continually updated configuration of training spaces. The renewal dynamic allows training proposals to follow advances in research and knowledge production in the area, as well as enabling professors to remain up to date on research and teaching topics. At PPGEDU, didactic, scientific, and administrative activities are carried out, including: 1) Procedures for requesting accreditation and reaccreditation of the faculty from the Postgraduate Board, in the categories of Permanent Professor, Visiting Professor, and Collaborating Professor, in accordance with the regulations of the Teaching, Research, and Extension Council of the University (CEPE/UFRGS), in order to ensure a profile that meets minimum requirements for research output, guidance, and teaching activities. 2) Selection and enrollment of master’s, doctoral, and post-doctoral students, in the categories of scholarship holder, non-scholarship holder, external student, and foreign student attending the Program through an agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 3) Curricular organization, semester offerings of courses, Advanced Seminars, Directed Readings, Research Practices, Special Seminars, and assessment of enrolled students. The Research Lines and professors present their proposals for training spaces, which are analyzed and approved by the Program Coordinating Committee. 4) Guidance and evaluation of research proposals from graduate students, dissertation and thesis projects, as well as dissertations and theses. 5) Participation in scientific events, production of articles for scientific journals, books, and book chapters, as well as the creation of texts and other materials for scientific dissemination by faculty, students, and alumni. 6) Monitoring of alumni and self-assessment of PPGEDU; 7) Budget preparation, fundraising from funding agencies, and production of financial reports.
