Higher Education: New challenges and emerging roles for human and social development
GUNi held its 4th International Barcelona Conference on Higher Education on 31 March and 1-2 April 2008. More than 450 people from nearly 80 countries participated in this event, which fostered a reflection on the role of higher education to meet the challenges set by the society of the new millennium.
There are so many factors of change, which today’s society is going through, that it is difficult to recognize in it the facets that characterized the second half of the 20th century. Everything seems to be interconnected, speeded up and turned more complex. The social, political, economic and cultural references which marked our immediate past turn out to be insufficient for understanding and acting upon today’s world.
