Tahar Labassi is Professor of Linguistics at the Department of English at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, University of Tunis. He published in several international journals on issues related to education in under-resourced contexts.  He supervised research on teaching English for academic purposes. He participated and presented at international conferences in France, Belgium, UK, USA, Italy, Kuwait, Morocco and Tunisia.

He occupied several administrative positions  as chair of the department of English, dean of the faculty, and chief of the cabinet of the Minister of Higher Education.

Tahar Labassi was awarded the Morley Scholarship for research in Applied Linguistics by the University of Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA,  and Attachment Scholarships by the University of Reading, UK.
