Knowledge Matters: The Public Mission of the Research University
This compendium gathers reports from scholars from Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and North America where they discuss the realities of higher education and the future of its public and private agenda. The book embraces the generalized concern over the cuts in public investment in universities and negligence of public purposes in favor of private benefits.
The objective of the publication is to analyze the implications of the changes in funding sources, administrative and policy decisions, and approaches to assessment and evaluation. With the different contributions, the aim is to shine a light on the path of education for the 21st Century and to underscore the continuing importance of the university’s public mission.
