Universities should integrate SDGs in their daily activity and assume the 2030 agenda, Spanish UNESCO Chairs and Networks said

The meeting that was attended by GUNi, gathered up to 50 representatives of different UNESCO Chairs and Networks from Spain. It was organized by Patronat Sud-Nord from the General Foundation of the Valencia University, the UNESCO Chair in Development Studies at the València University, the University of Valencia, the Observatory on University Development Cooperation (OCUD) and the Spanish Network on Development Studies (REEDES).

Participants discussed the role of UNESCO Chairs and Networks as facilitators of the 2030 agenda in their universities and deliberated on the way to reach a major recognition of their activities and projects within their institutions, as well as in society.

During the meeting the idea of networking among different chairs and networks was underlined, as well as the need to coordinate different actors involved in development within universities, in order to gain effectiveness. Furthermore, transdisciplinarity and multilevel implementation were highlighted as a must for the successful 2030 agenda implementation in higher education institution.

UNESCO Chairs and Networks also agreed in recognizing the opportunity that the 2030 agenda brings to higher education institutions to break closets and move towards transversality, since SDGs can only be achieved with a general commitment of all governing bodies and decision-takers within the institution.
