The rector of the Universitat de Girona (UdG), Sergi Bonet was appointed President of the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) and is, therefore, the new GUNi President for 2016

Last February 2, it has been established the new directive board of the ACUP. Sergi Bonet, rector of the UdG was elected President of ACUP. Therefore, he has become the GUNi President for 2016.  In this way, Sergi Bonet took over from Enric Fossas, rector of Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) as GUNi President.

Sergi Bonet i Marull was born in Girona in 1960 and received his degree in Biology from the University of Barcelona in 1982 and a doctorate in Biological Sciences from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1986. Since 1996 he has been a full university professor of Cellular Biology. He served as general secretary of the UdG from 1991 to 2001 and this past 19 November he was elected rector of the UdG.

Also at the meeting, the members of the new ACUP board were elected: First Vice-president – Jaume Casals, rector of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra; Secretary – Enric Fossas, rector of the UPC and ACUP's former president; Second Vice-president – Joan Pedrerol Gallego, president of the Social Council of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili; and Third Vice-president - Salvador Alemany, president of the Social Council of the Universitat de Barcelona.
