The Guadalajara International Book Fair is the most important publication gathering in Ibero-America. It is also an amazing cultural festival. Created 31 years ago by the University of Guadalajara, the fair is aimed at professionals and the general public alike, a characteristic that sets it apart from other book fairs around the globe. It is also a cultural festival in which literature plays a major role including a program where authors from all continents and languages participate, and a forum for the academic discussion of the major issues of our time.
For nine days, people willingly stand in long lines to listen to their favorite authors; the book industry makes Guadalajara its beating heart and the whole city is filled with the music, arts, cinema and theatre from the featured Guest of Honor which was Madrid. In addition, there were 815,000 attendees, 620 book presentations, more than 20 awards given, and 20,700 professional editorials, 67 academic forums and 185,000 attendees were in the children section.
The presentation of the 6th Higher Education in the World Report (HEIW6) 'Towards a Socially Responsible University: Balancing the Global with the Local' was discussed with audience on the evening of November 26, at The Guadalajara International Book Fair, held by the University of Guadalajara at the Guadalajara Expo. The authors reviewed the advances and challenges of higher education institutions in areas such as linkage with the social and productive sectors, internationalization and public policies that guide the dynamics of these institutions.
The session was held in room E of the International section of the fair Dr. Carlos Iván Moreno Arellano, Vice Provost for International Affairs and representing the president, Itzcóatl Tonatiuh Bravo Padilla, of the University of Guadalajara, gave the official welcome and opening to the presentation. He greeted everyone with some opening remarks on behalf of the university and thanked the audience for joining them on a Sunday evening. Dr. Axel Didriksson, President of the Global University Network for Innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean (GUNi-LAC), officially began discussing the book to the public and provided some historical context to why the book was created in the first place. He was accompanied by Dr. Carlos Quenan who is the Vice President for Institute des Ameriques and Dr. Adrian Acosta Silva, Professor of Public Policy at the University of Guadalajara, who also gave their opinions and perspective on various themes from the book.
The report was launched in Barcelona on the 10th March 2017 and it is currenty being presented in several conferences and seminars around the world: Ghana, UK, Colombia, Mexico, Italy, Nigeria, South Africa...
