UNESCO supports launch of the Colombian Open Educational Resources Strategy
Last 25 October, the Colombian government launched its National Strategy for Digital Open Educational Resources.
The Colombian National Strategy for Digital Open Educational Resources (OER) aims to strengthen the production, management and usage of OER in higher education institutions and shows Colombia’s commitment to the development of the field. Ms Fernanda Campo, Minister for Education, said that the actions that the Ministry of Education is taking to improve national technological infrastructure services and conditions, and to promote its usage and participation by all levels of education communities, fall within the broader goal that the ministry set at the beginning of this administration: to transform the quality of education.
UNESCO highlighted Colombia’s digital educational resources strategy as an invitation to other Latin American countries to continue to join forces in favor of quality education.
This initiative includes a national open digital educational resource system, and harmonizes national and institutional policies, while establishing conditions that guarantee adequate resources and services provision. Besides, it promotes collaborative work between different institutions. These are the key points of its success.
Members of civil society also expressed their satisfaction with the OER strategy.
During the event, the Colombian Ministry of Education also launched the “Recursos Educativos Abiertos” book.
