This Report is an unprecedented national conversation on the challenges and opportunities facing accreditation
The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) has launched the CHEA Initiative Final Report, which reflects the active involvement of some 2,500 colleagues from CHEA member institutions, recognized accreditors, higher education associations and the public taking part in 36 meetings.
The CHEA Initiative was a multi-year national conversation on the future of accreditation that was launched in 2008 and focused on building support to sustain a balance and distinction between accountability to the federal government and the academic world of accreditation and to further enhance accountability in accreditation.
Through the Initiative, CHEA sought consensus for action by the accreditation and academic communities, as well as preparing for the next reauthorization of the Higher Education Act in 2013 or thereafter. The report provides some action points for future work in accreditation.
