First meeting of the Pan African University Steering Committee
Higher Education in Africa needs to be resuscitated, rehabilitated and strengthened
The African Union (AU), standing for a united and strong Africa, created during its African Union Commission (AUC) in 2008 the Pan African University (PAU).The purpose of the Pan African University is to develop a continent-wide network of high quality universities that would lead to enhanced collaboration amongst higher institutions of learning and research in order to create a global pool of knowledge and innovation; and better links with industry in order to enhance relevance and contribute to addressing local challenges.
The first meeting of the Pan African University (PAU) Steering Committee took place in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) in October 2012. The mandate of the Steering Committee is to oversee the process towards opening the first three PAU thematic Institutes in November 2012.
