About membership

 

GUNi welcomes higher education institutions, research centers in higher education, networks and other institutions related to higher education whose activity is:
  • Committed to GUNi mission and goals.
  • Devoted to the strengthening of the role of higher education in society.
  • Linked to innovation in higher education under a vision of public service, relevance and social responsibility.
  • Involved in innovative projects underlining its commitment with human and social perspective of the concept of development.

 

 

Types of memberships:
  • Institutional members: full membership.
  • Associated institutions: some entities that share ideas and areas of interest related to the mission of GUNi, but do not meet all the requirements for full membership, could establish ties of cooperation to the network throught this associated institution category.
  • Individual membership: people who play an important role in GUNi Network activity and that, ultimately, end up forming a true community of essential knowledge for the proper functioning of the network.  Can be considered honorary members, those who have developed an important role in the network during a specific period of time. For example, UNU and UNESCO former representatives or former members of the executive committee or gest editors.  The appointment of the individual memberships must be on the recommendation of the GUNi Secretariat or founding members, upon presentation of a completed professional profile, including the description of their specific relationship with GUNi activitites.

 


Who can apply for GUNi membership?


  • Institutional members. The following institutions can apply to this category:
  1. The UNESCO Chairs in higher education established within the UNESCO / UNITWIN program.
  2. Higher education institutions.
  3. Research Centres in higher education.
  4. Networks related to higher education.
  5. Other UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks established within the UNESCO / UNITWIN program.

 

Applicants for membership as Institutional member, must meet the following requirements:

    1. The institution must be legally established, recognized, accredited or otherwise sanctioned by the competent authorities and according to its nature.
    2. The applicant entity must have juridical entity.
    3. The activity of the institution must be related to higher education.
    4. The institution is not listed as unaccredited school, scam school or degree supplier or it is not considered illegal, unlawful, unacceptable, fraudulent or substandard according to the competent authorities.
    5. The institution must be older than 8 years old (with the exception of UNESCO Chairs established by UNESCO).

  • Associated institutions. The following institutions can apply to this category:
  1. Foundations and civil society organizations (NGO) whose main activity is related to higher education.
  2. Other organizations that are not strictly linked to higher education but who share values, ideals or areas of work with GUNi, and are interested to establish links of collaboration.

 

Applicants for membership as Associated Institution, must meet the following requirements:

    1. The institution must be legally established, recognized, accredited or otherwise sanctioned by the competent authorities and according to its nature.
    2. The applicant entity must have juridical entity.
    3. The institution is not considered illegal, unlawful, unacceptable, fraudulent or substandard according to the competent authorities.
    4. The institution must be older than 5 years old.
