LATIN AMERICA & THE CARIBBEAN
The Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero, Argentina hosts the biannual Conference of International Association of Genocide Scholars.
The Universidad Nacional Tres de Febrero, Argentina, hold the 9th biennial Conference of the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS), on July 19-22, 2011. This is the first conference on Thruth, Memory, Justice and Recovery ever held in Latin America.
Hosting this event is the result of the efforts of the University and, more specifically, the Center for Genocide Studies, for settling the thruth, memory and justice, as preconditions for the recovery in a post-conflict society such as Argentina.
Innovative panels, workshops, and papers that consider the dynamics, causes, and consequences of genocide, issues of memory and representation, the role of justice and truth in post-conflict societies and the paths to individual and collective recovery were presented, as well as the encouragement of other modes of dialogue, including workshops, roundtable discussions, book presentations, cultural media, and artistic works/readings, including forums that relate to policy initiatives, pedagogy, and education concerned with the history and prevention of genocide.
The event was attended by more than 200 scholars, practitioners, activists, teachers, and students interested in genocide studies from all disciplines.
