Students from Strathmore University develop disease tracking software
In February 2011, the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation of Kenya, in collaboration with the Clinton Health Access Initiative - CHAI of the Clinton Foundation, engaged the Strathmore University to develop a more modern and efficient web-based disease reporting system.
Less than four months later, a young innovative team from the University's Faculty of Information Technology developed a web based application for deadly disease reporting that has revolutionized the government's ability to control, track and prevent infectious diseases and outbreaks countrywide.
The new system allows transmission of data in real time under a secure database that comes complete with a user friendly interface. The system comes with additional features and tools that can allow users to access health related resources, as well as report outbreaks and other health events even if they are not health expert thus opening a wider information sharing network within a common database.
