Universities-society dialogue must be part of the inner institutional dynamics, since is from society where formative demand comes and is to society where professionals are addressed.

Institutions need to open their doors and establish a dialogue that constitutes an effective framework for relationships with all social sectors. In this sense, challenges such as the creation and distribution of socially relevant knowledge, need to be present on the core activities of universities, strengthening their social responsibility.

Greater coordination is needed between governments, civil society, educative institutions and companies in order to achieve social transformation. Civil society – the emerging actor in local and global realities- should meet universities as partners with which to imagine and develop cooperation and exchange alliances.

In the context of the knowledge society, universities have an important role to play in linking technology to citizenship and in bringing about a democratization of science and technology. This significance lies in their ability to produce democratic discourse and enhance citizen participation in the field of knowledge production.
