South Africa aims for increased university enrollment
The South African government has come forward with a plan to raise the country’s tertiary education participation from 900,000 students to 1.5 million, representing a 7% increase, by the year 2030.
The policy goes hand in hand with the governmental strategies for the overall development of the Rainbow Nation, with a focus on 18-24 year olds. Blade Nzimande, the Minister of Higher Education and Training stated that this new plan aims at "expanding post-school provision to improve access to education and training opportunities, strengthen institutions to improve education quality, and build a post-school education and training system that is equitable, accessible and affordable to all sections of the population, including free education and training for the poor."
