KIC-Innoenergy and UPC launch a master programme in renewable energy and entrepreneurship
MSc Renewable Energy – RenE aims to train students from around the globe, delivering the right type of engineering graduates needed to go forward in leadership, industrial practice, innovation and entrepreneurship in the renewable energy field, so that becoming an engine for innovation in the field of sustainable energy.
RenE is an EIT labelled programme aligned with the objectives of the European SET plan and the strategic objectives of KIC InnoEnergy. Therefore, the program aims in fostering science for transforming energy technologies to achieve the 2020 Energy and Climate Change goals; and in contributing to the worldwide transition to a low carbon economy by 2050.
The programme is offered by a consortium consisting of four technical universities: UPC (Spain), KTH (Sweden), IST (Portugal), and ParisTech (France); a business school: ESADE (Spain), and four industrial partners: Gas Natural Fenosa (Spain), EdP (Portugal), Total (France), and EdF (France). Mobility is part of the KIC InnoEnergy educational and innovation strategy. Subsequently, the students will be the first year in one of the universities of the partnership and the second year in another one. At the end of the programme students will be able to work effectively in international environments.
The methodology of the program is aligned with the concept of “learning by doing”, so combining deep theory knowledge (top-down approach) with internship in industry co-advisored by the university and the industry (bottom-up approach). In that way, students learn to work effectively as a team member in an industrial environment.
From the transversal point of view, the objective is to train the students in skills such as communication, economics, and business administration and to promote the orientation to innovation and the entrepreneurship spirit. The practical implementation of such concepts is done by developing applied technical valorisation and business plans.
