GUNi members actively participated in the Latin-American Encounter on University Management (VIII Jornadas de Gestión Universitaria)

More than 400 higher education professionals from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Germany, Mexico, Peru, United States and Venezuela participated in the regional encounter held in Santiago, Chile from 11-13 January 2012.

The initiative aimed to share experiences and perspectives on higher education management was organized by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). The three days programme offered 4 plenary sessions, 2 special presentations and 49 thematic conferences. In this framework, speakers and participants highlighted the following themes:

  • the importance of strategic management and its principles,
  • the role of information technologies on promoting collaboration among higher education institutions and stakeholders,
  • challenges and possible scenarios related to the rapid massification of higher education in the region,
  • the debate about the situation of the Chilean higher education system and funding alternatives,
  • International experiences (Brazil and Germany)

Among the thematic conferences, three GUNi members from Chile (Instituto Profesional DuocUC, Universidad Católica del Norte, Universidad Católica de Temuco) and one from Mexico (Universidad de Guadalajara) were speakers. Moreover, the GUNi collaborator, Natalia Orellana, gave a presentation about career guidance and strategic management making reference on its relevance for lifelong learning, labour market outcomes and social inclusion.
